Designed to offer a natural looking, functional solution to teeth loss, dental implants are a longer lasting alternative to dentures or other restorative treatments that require the removal of a layer of healthy teeth.

Dental implants can improve your chewing and speaking ability, as well as giving you the freedom to eat what you like. They can also enhance the look of your facial contours, reduce bone loss and keep any existing teeth firmly in place.

Implants act as substitute teeth roots and are carefully positioned in the jawbone to provide a solid foundation for replacement teeth. They consist of tiny posts made from titanium – a metal that is very well tolerated by the body and which eventually fuses with the surrounding bone. They can be used to replace a sole lost teeth with a crown, multiple missing teeth with a dental bridge or a whole set of teeth by acting as a stable base for dentures.

The treatment process

  • We will thoroughly assess how your teeth fit together, your oral health and the density of your jaw bone. (If we discover you have insufficient bone to support implants, you may need additional grafting procedures before they can be successfully anchored in place).
  • The implants are carefully positioned using a minor surgical procedure.
  • Over the next few months, the titanium posts will bond with the bone.
  • Once they have fully ‘taken root’, replacement teeth will be added to these firm fixtures.

Aftercare

Implants are a long lasting answer to gaps in your smile but they do need the same care and attention as natural teeth, which means lots of brushing and interdental cleaning. You will also need to come and see us for regular check-ups so we can keep a close eye on your implants and the surrounding teeth.
If you’re unhappy with those glaring gaps in your smile, give us a call on 020 7723 6106 and discover how implants can make you feel more complete.
